HIGHLIGHTS
v Eighth Annual Aloha Festivals Keiki Ho‘olaule‘a at Pearlridge. Over 500 children from six halau and musical schools will help showcase the 2011 theme, “Mele ‘Ailana: Celebrate Island Music”, as performers at the Keiki Ho‘olaule‘a. The only signature keiki event of Aloha Festivals will feature arts and crafts, demonstrations, hula and, of course, live musical entertainment by Hawaii’s keiki. The 2011 Aloha Festivals Royal Court will make a special appearance Uptown for the Pearlridge ‘ohana at 10 a.m. Aloha Festivals ribbons will be available for $5 at the event and at Jeff Chang Pottery & Fine Crafts and Royal Hawaiian Heritage Jewelry starting Aug. 19 and through Sept. 11, while supplies last. Wear your ribbon and receive discounts from participating Pearlridge merchants, as well as free monorailrides during Keiki Ho‘olaule‘a event hours. Saturday, Sept. 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Uptown and Downtown Center Courts, as well as Uptown, second level fronting Sephora.
v Annual Kupuna (Senior) Fair. Join us for as Pearlridge promotes awareness of health issues and active living opportunities for seniors and their loved ones. Some 20 non-profit and governmental organizations – including AARP, the City Elderly Affairs Division and the State of Hawaii Executive Office on Aging – will offer a variety of medical tests and information on volunteer opportunities and other issues of interest to our kupuna. The Senior Fair is sponsored by the dedicated State legislators from the Aiea and Pearl City areas. Saturday, Sept. 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Uptown Center Court.
v Sixth Annual Canstruction®: Canned Cinema – Dinner and a Movie! The Pearlridge community welcomes back Canstruction® on Sept. 24 when teams of local architects and allied professionals “canstruct” giant structures made entirely of thousands of cans of food. Please vote for yourfavorites through our “one can, one vote” system – with all donations going to feed the 183,000 hungry in our community. Pearlridge proudly hosts the sixth annual event, the largest single-day promotion to benefit Hawaii Foodbank. Teams will actively “canstruct” their creations on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Completed structures will be on display for voting through canned food donations (only cans count!) through Sunday, Oct 9. Uptown Center Court.
v Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children and Keiki Injury Prevention Coalition Keiki Car Seat Check. Specially trained child-passenger safety technicians will ensure that car seats are property installed at this free event to celebrate National Car Seat Check Day. The National Highway Safety Administration has determined that nearly four in five car seats nationwide are installed or used incorrectly; Kapiolani Medical Center has found that 90 percent of car seats checked by its technicians have one or more installation errors. Please take advantage of this free community service to ensure that your child is as safe as possible when in the car! Saturday, Sept. 24 from 10 a.m. to noon. Sears parking lot.
ALL IN THE ‘OHANA: FROM KEIKI TO KUPUNA
v Keiki Tuesday. Kid-friendly entertainers will delight the whole family at free celebrations held most Tuesdays from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Bring the keiki for crafts, balloons, storytelling, face-painting, silly songs and more. Uptown Center Court.

v Island Family Cover Kids Model Search. Bring down that adorable tyke aged six months to 12 years to Pearlridge to be photographed by Island Family magazine’s professional photographer for consideration as a future cover model. Saturday, Sept. 10 from noon to 2 p.m. Downtown, first level near Longs Drugs.

v Pali Momi Healthy Monday Screenings. Blood pressure and blood-sugar level testing will be offered on Monday, Sept. 5 and 19 from 7:45 to 9:30 a.m. Uptown Center Court.
v St. Francis Hospice Bereavement Walk. Anyone dealing with the loss of a loved one will appreciate the camaraderie that can be found with these supportive individuals. Join a community that understands on the first Wednesday of each month as it walks the center. Wednesday, Sept. 7 from 8 to 9 a.m. Uptown, second level fronting Sephora.
v Mokichi Okada Association (MOA) Hawaii Healthy Monday Wellness Activities. Experience purifying and flower therapies, as well as the Japanese Bontemae tea ceremony. Monday, Sept. 12 and 26 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Uptown, first level near See’s Candies.
v Hawaii Children’s Cancer Foundation Bone Marrow Drive. To raise awareness of September as Childhood CancerAwareness Month, the Hawaii Children’s Cancer Foundation will conduct a bone marrow drive. As the only organization in the state that focuses exclusively on supporting children with cancer and their families, the foundation aims to raise awareness about childhood cancer and how it impacts our island families through this critical drive. Come down, take a simple test and, hopefully, you may help save a life! Saturday, Sept .17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m, in Downtown Center Court.
