OAHU BOY SCOUTS DONATE THEIR FOOD-DRIVE CANS TO CANSTRUCTION® SATURDAY AT PEARLRIDGE

- First Scouting for Food donations will be votes for favorites at annual AIA Honolulu benefit for Hawaii Foodbank -

WHAT:

On Saturday, Oct. 1, Boy Scout troops from across Oahu will deliver canned-food donations to Canstruction® at Pearlridge Center.

The cans have been collected as part of the inaugural Scouting for Food Drive to benefit Hawaii Foodbank.

The scouts’ donations will immediately be recorded by the Foodbank, and the scout will then use his cans to vote for his favorite of the Canstruction® structures. (Even non-scouts are encouraged to participate by visiting Canstruction® through Oct. 9 and bringing canned-food donations to support Hawaii’s hungry families. The Canstruction® structure that receives the most votes from members of the public during the two-week exhibition will be named People’s Choice Award winner. One can of donated food equals one vote – but only cans count!)

Individual scouts who each collect at least 100 cans of food to donate will receive the inaugural Scouting for Food patch.

Canstruction® is the largest single-day promotion for the Hawaii Foodbank.

WHEN:

Canstruction® organizers expect the largest number of scouts to deliver their Scouting for Food canned-food donations on Saturday, Oct. 1 between 2 and 3 p.m., though some troops are also expected between noon and 2 p.m.

Canstruction® will be on display for voting through Sunday, Oct. 9 at 2 p.m., when the structures will be de-canstructed.

WHERE:

Pearlridge Center, Uptown Center Court

ABOUT CANSTRUCTION:

Over five years, the Canstruction® competition has raised 180,000 pounds of canned food for the Hawaii Foodbank.

Canstruction® is a national community service program created by the Society for Design Administration on behalf of the design and construction industry. The American Institute of Architects (AIA), Honolulu Chapter presents the annual Canstruction® competition in Hawaii.

This is Hawaii’s Sixth Annual Canstruction® competition.

WHY:

The Aloha Council Boy Scouts of America joined with the Hawaii Foodbank to develop the Scouting for Food program to support Hawaii’s hungry in conjunction with AIA Honolulu’s Canstruction® competition.

Hawaii’s design community believes we can build a world without hunger, one can at a time.
